Running for 3 seasons and 134 episodes from 2011 to 2012, this gothic mystery thriller is set in a private boarding school, Boarding House No. 1 "Logos," hidden deep in a Russian forest. The plot masterfully weaves together reincarnation, ancient curses, secret societies (the "Moth" and "Watchmen"), and a missing child investigation.
Russian distinguishes between informal "you" (Ты - Ty) and formal/polite "you" (Вы - Vy). When students speak to teachers, the respect is built into the pronoun. English loses this entirely, making the rigid hierarchy of Boarding House No. 1 seem less severe.
The secret society "The Moth" speaks in poetic, archaic Russian. Translators often simplify these riddles into plain English. You will understand the plot, but you will miss the eerie, Pushkin-esque rhythm of the original.
